OUGD502: Linked in

I recently set up a Linked in profile after the presentation we had about how 'social networks' especially professional ones can be a good resource to find out about graphic design and creatives. For my COP project I am focusing on traditional printing methods so I thought it would be worthwhile to hear about the opinions of other designers/educators. I posted this question to a group which I have commented on a few different posts with my opinion on a developing design and also about colours in logos.

So far I've received some interesting feedback from a freelance designer and lecturer. Hopefully over the next few days I will also gain more opinions from others.

OUGD502: PPP- Behance Profile

Last week I made a Behance profile of university briefs and also a few personal photography projects. I have often found inspiration for my work on websites such as Behance and so I thought it would be a good idea to upload my own work onto the site. I have had a profile since 2013 but I have only just uploaded my own work. Since uploading the work for the past couple of days I've been receiving positive feedback in the form of comments and also messages.

I was also added as a 'team member' to the 'Artists Federation'- New Zealand which has allowed for my profile to gain more views and messages of compliments.

As this seems to be quite a successful the next step will be to revisit my 'personal branding' which I wasn't entirely happy with previously. I will then be able to apply the logo I create to my behance profile and also perhaps make myself a small website through using simple tools of Wix as my coding skills aren't extremely brilliant.

However I have found behance is an incredibly useful tool to be able to view more work from other countries- I have also been able to view illustrators work as well as graphic designers which has helped me in terms of inspiration for briefs.

OUGD502: PPP- Art Gallery

Outside Leeds Gallery today they were setting up a large exhibition and adding lights to the top. I had a little look round and the photographs were simply stunning. They showed different areas of the UK and their natural beauty taken from an ariel shot (helicopter). The beauty of these images was enhanced by printing them in an incredibly large format. They were also many which dominant the space outside the gallery and this therefore meant that as I did, people stop to look at the artwork as it is in their path. Which therefore meant than people looked at the photographs that wouldn't normally enter an art gallery. The purpose of this exhibition I believe is to raise awareness of what beautiful landscapes the UK offers both in the countryside and inner city. This exhibition will be incredibly successful outside and the idea of exhibitions and space should be considered based upon the artwork and what format would have the most impact. In this case it is large prints with lights so they can be seen in the evening too. I also caught people subtly educating themselves by the small amount of texts at the bottom of each photograph based on the places and this enhances the original identified purpose of raising awareness of the UK.

(see photographs below)

For Responsive I also visited London: Disobedient Objects Exhibition

The inspiration I gained from this exhibition for design practice was not necessarily from a visual point of view in terms of graphic design. The passion and stories behind each of the pieces were incredibly interesting and moving in terms of concepts. Especially the wall of notes by a large amount of people who has written thoughts that bothered them based on current issues such as "black lives matter" and "je suis charlie". However these pieces were based on protest and creating work which demands attention and action. It was also interesting to see such a large art gallery and in the future I would like to visit more places like this to view graphic design in person.
